Project summaryThe storychangers.eu site invited young Europeans to vote for the 2014 EU elections. The campaign revolved around an interactive video animation story to which studio artists added alternative endings suggested by users.
In an attempt to get young people to vote, storychangers.eu involved them in the making of an animated video commercial during the run-up to the 2014 European elections. The initial commercial ended with a cliff-hanger, allowing viewers to suggest their own ending. Over the course of four days, animators in London (UK), Utrecht (NL) and Ghent (B) turned these suggestions into full-blown animated videos. Their labors were also being filmed and could be viewed on the storychangers website as a single video, which is a mix of the live video feeds from the different locations.
Advertising agency Ogilvy Brussels and production company Mojuice asked Rambla to take care of broadcasting the video from each of the locations, mixing the streams into a single dynamic livestream and publishing the result as a YouTube live event. The separate livestreams also had to be recorded and stored, so they could be used afterwards.
A custom script, running on our Wowza broadcasting server, automatically mixed the incoming streams – alternatively, mixing could also be done by the client through a web application – and broadcasted the dynamic livestream to YouTube. During intermissions, the livestream was being replaced by a streamed pancarte, enhancing the effect of a continuous, four day long live event.
