Mediafin, online video pioneer

  • Mediafin, online video pioneer

Mediafin, Belgium’s leading publisher of business news and Rambla client since 2007, is a true pioneer in the field of in-house produced video content, aired through their online news outlets tijd.be and lecho.be. Mediafin’s Content Management System (CMS) has been tightly integrated with the Rambla CDN and cloud transcoding services to deliver video reports on a daily basis to a growing number of subscription visitors. In March 2015, Mediafin decided to start using VWflow, Rambla’s new cloud-based platform for automating online video workflows.

On-demand video content is uploaded to VWflow through a responsive web interface. When a journalist edits a video, the workflow scheduler triggers a call to Mediafin’s CMS in order to store embed codes and keep all metadata synchronized. As a result, journalists can easily add relevant video items to their news articles. Thanks to VWflow’s tagging mechanism, they can also embed topic-based playlists on the web-tv section of the site, which will automatically remain up to date with the latest video content.

Mediafin also uses VWflow’s live event manager. De Tijd journalist and video producer Dirk Selleslagh explains the advantages of VWflow while producing his weekly live chats with financial and economic experts directly from his newsroom studio in Tour & Taxis:

The event manager gives me all the tools I need to run the broadcasts by myself, while at the same time conducting the interviews with my guests. All the while, a recording of the livestream is being stored in the Rambla cloud. This permits our online subscribers to immediately catch up via video on demand. The statistics dashboard provides me with realtime feedback on viewers numbers and behaviour, important for every web journalist.
